Materials & Quality
What grade of foam do you use?
We only use high density foam and fibre fillings. We expect our new cushion refills to last many years.
What is the difference between foam, fibre, and a combination filling?
Foam forms the high‑density core of a seat cushion — it’s the part that provides structure and long‑lasting support. Around that core, we wrap a soft fibre layer. Think of it as a gentle blanket: it softens the edges of the foam and gives the cushion its inviting, rounded appearance.
Without this fibre wrap, the cushion would look noticeably square and a little stark. For that reason, we always recommend adding a light fibre layer to every sofa seat cushion. It enhances comfort, but just as importantly, it ensures the cushion looks beautifully finished.
How long will the new filling last?
Our cushions and fillings will still be supportive and last for many years
Are your materials safe for children and petst?
Our materials are fully compliant with UK safety standards, including the UK Furniture & Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations, which set strict requirements for foam, fillings, and upholstery. All foams we use are fire‑retardant to UK standards, and our fabrics are sourced from reputable mills that meet the same regulatory criteria. We avoid hazardous chemicals and use materials considered safe for homes with children and pets. While no sofa is completely immune to everyday wear from little hands or paws, our construction and material choices are designed to be durable, low‑maintenance, and family‑friendly
Sustainability & Environment
Is restoring a sofa better for the environment than buying new?
restoring or replacing your sofa cushions is far better for the environment than buying a whole new sofa. It keeps perfectly good frames out of UK landfill, reduces the demand for new materials, and gives your sofa years of extra life with a much smaller carbon footprint. At Dr Sofa, all replacement foams and fillings meet UK fire‑safety regulations, so you get an eco‑conscious upgrade that’s fully compliant and safe for your home. It’s a simple, sustainable way to make your sofa feel new again without the environmental cost of starting from scratch.
What happens to the old foam and fibre?
We advise that you take your old foam & fibre filling to your local recycling facility.
My sofa has sentimental value — is restoration a good option?
Absolutely — if your sofa holds sentimental value, restoration is the ideal choice. When the frame still fits your space and the sofa used to feel comfortable, replacing the cushions is the perfect way to bring it back to life. You keep the piece you love, preserve its memories, and enjoy comfort that feels brand‑new again without replacing the whole sofa.
